Come join us on Sunday, October 21, 2007 for the Seventh Annual SoCal HistioWalk. This fundraising event will benefit the Histiocytosis Association of America, a nonprofit organization. The SoCal HistioWalk is truly a unique and wonderful event that brings families and friends together in the fight against histiocytic disorders.

Histiocytosis is a rare blood disease that is caused by an excess of a white blood cell called a histiocyte. These histiocytes cluster together and can attack the skin, bones, lungs, liver, spleen, gums, ears, eyes and/or the central nervous system. The disease can range from limited involvement that spontaneously regresses to progressive multi-organ involvement that can be chronic and debilitating.

The disease can be fatal. In some ways, histiocytosis is similar to cancer. The vast majority of people diagnosed with histiocytosis are children under the age of ten. The cause is unknown, as is a best form of treatment, and a cure.

Please join us in the fight against this frightening disease. Your assistance will help to support the membership program the Association has created to meet the unique needs of families dealing with a rare disease. In addition, you can help to continue vital research into the causes, treatments, and ultimately a cure, for histiocytosis.
